The New York Landmarks Conservancy Works to Protect NY Buildings

A respected building revitalization company, Proto Restoration Construction has been in business since 1988. In addition to building strong relationships with local engineers and project managers, the New York City-based Proto Restoration Construction has maintained affiliations with a number of organizations, including the New York Landmarks Conservancy. 

Dedicated to protecting and preserving architecture throughout New York City, the New York Landmarks Conservancy oversees a variety of financial assistance, advocacy, and education programs and services. Recently, the organization awarded $178,500 to 16 religious properties as part of its Sacred Sites grant program. The grants will be used to restore churches throughout New York State, including St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Jamestown in Chautauqua County, Christ Church in Rochester, and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Albany.

In addition to awarding grants, the Conservancy has been working to restore the Erasmus Academy Building, which was built in 1787. Along with the Erasmus alumni, the Conservancy has been spearheading efforts to secure $1.33 million from the City Council. The funds would be used to protect the building’s exterior and prepare it for future use. The Sacred Sites Program of the New York Landmarks Conservancy

A facade restoration company and construction contractor in Queens, New York, Proto Restoration Construction has performed a number of historical restoration projects over its three decades of operation. To further promote the conservation of regional buildings, Proto and its management team support an active partnership with the New York Landmarks Conservancy.

The New York Landmarks Conservancy advocates for the protection of New York’s architectural heritage by advancing beneficial government policy and educating the general public. The organization also sponsors multiple grant opportunities through initiatives such as the Sacred Sites Program.

By providing both Sacred Sites Grants and Sacred Sites Challenge Grants, the Sacred Sites Program assists religious organizations throughout the state of New York. The New York Landmarks Conservancy launched this program in 1986 to respond to the evolving conservancy needs of historic religious properties. Over the years, Sacred Sites has awarded more than 1,300 grants for a combined total of nearly $10 million. These grants were distributed to 760 religious organizations of various denominations throughout New York State. 

Standard Sacred Sites Grants draw from the Sacred Sites Fund to offer grants of $10,000 or less. Ideal for larger restoration projects, the Sacred Sites Challenge program offers matching grants of between $25,000 and $75,000.
